Cossack Art Awards 2018: Nyaparu Gardiner (dec.), Best Portrait; Doreen Chapman, Zenith Gardiner Kane, Highly Commended, Cossack Art Awards.

The late Nyaparu (William) Gardiner took out the portrait award for his piece One of my Family at the 2018 Cossack Art Awards.

The judges said ‘Reminiscent of a Sidney Nolan with its vibrant use of colour. There is a sense of shifting movement in the hands and shoulders of the subject, with lovely drawn passages. The landscape is barely there but very evocative, reflecting the heat of the Pilbara desert.’

Fellow Spinifex Hill Artists Doreen Chapman and Zenith Gardiner Kane were also recognised for their works, which were highly commended.
